PLOT

How will they get ready for the funky formal AND turn in a kickin’ cool project? Leave it to The Girls with a Passion for Fashion to “express themselves” with a scorchin’ home video about their super-stylin’ prom prep… even as a secret gossip columnist begins to attack the pack in the school paper! But with a lil’ hard work and some far-out flash ‘n’ dash, the girls just might create a high-fashion hit—and save the prom!

Background

In February 2004, it was announced that MGA Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment had entered an agreement to produce and distribute films centered around the Bratz franchise. An animated direct-to-DVD feature, which would be Starrin’ and Stylin’, was expected to be released that Fall with a buildup to a live-action theatrical film down the line. 20th Century Fox would distribute all Bratz films through 2006 until Lionsgate gained distribution rights in 2007, causing a shift in plans for the brand’s film franchise.

CAST

The cast of this film remains uncredited, with the makers opting to credit the characters by their names in the opening credits rather than naming the actual voice actresses and actors.

RE-RELEASE

The film, originally distributed by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment in 2004, was re-released by Lionsgate Home Entertainment in 2007 with a new cover.

Soundtrack

Bratz The Video: Starrin’ and Stylin’ does not have an official soundtrack release. However, the songs “Clothes Make The Girl”, “It’s Our Time In The Sun” and “After All” by Crashing The System, “Groovy You” by Nu Dae, “Summertime Girl” by Melody Patron, and “Girls Rule The World” by Jody Grant are featured in the DVD’s karaoke/jukebox special feature.

TRIVIA

The film was originally released as both a VHS and DVD in purse packaging. In the scene where the girls are going to the mall, an easter egg is shown on the bus as it showcases a poster that reads “B2: Coming Soon” with silhouettes of the girls on it; this easter egg infers that a direct 2D-animated sequel was to be released, but that was not the case as the film series continued in 3D animation with Bratz Rock Angelz in 2005.
