Bratz Lookz Digital Platform Launching Soon! (UPDATED 12/27/20)

Hey Angelz!

Exciting news from the Bratz brand has come out in the past day in several press releases. Blockchain game developer Animoca Brands and digital assets platform WAX have announced a partnership with Bratz and MGA Entertainment in creating a digital platform for the Bratz brand in which fans can collect and trade digital collectibles (such as trading cards, referred to as NFTs), as well as play games to earn tokens.

Truthfully, I have no idea what most of this means. But, here is the press release published on Medium:

The global fashion doll line Bratz®, manufactured by MGA Entertainment (MGAE), is stepping into digital entertainment and blockchain, together with Animoca Brands and WAX.io.

While preparing for the soon to be launched Ethereum-based Bratz Lookz™ game, Animoca Brands and WAX will launch a “Bratz® Card Sale” on the WAX blockchain on 22 December 2020.

Fans and collectors can purchase the first ever official Bratz® collectible card non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which they can collect, gift and trade, enjoying blockchain-enabled true digital ownership. The WAX card sale will be the first step in Bratz® taking over the blockchain world, giving fans and users an opportunity to get ready for the launch of the upcoming styling game.

The first sets of Bratz® collectible cards can be obtained in this Bratz® Card Sale held on the WAX blockchain. The cards are divided into 4 different rarity levels, with higher levels bringing in more exciting designs and more challenging ways to obtain:

US$4.99 Mini Pack (contains 1 card)

US$9.99 Standard Pack (contains 3 cards) — 30% extra!

US$24.99 Mega Pack (contains 9 cards) — 45% extra!

Later in January 2021, MGAE together with Animoca Brands will launch an official blockchain game called Bratz Lookz™.

Bratz Lookz™ will be a digital collectible game that allows users to not only collect their favourite Bratz® dolls, outfits and accessories, but also use them to style and create their unique digital dolls.

Bratz Lookz™ will adapt a Play-To-Earn model for all Bratz® fans and collectors. In the game there will be regular “Freezing” events, in which players will be able to turn their Bratz® doll designs into NFTs that can be sold and traded for real money. More details of the game will be announced later.

As an additional surprise, GAMEE, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, and MGAE are also introducing Bratz® Popz. GAMEE is a high-engagement social casual gaming platform that allows users to enjoy casual game sessions or take part in gaming tournaments and compete for cash prizes.

In Bratz® Popz players can find hidden codes which they can use to redeem free Bratz® Fan Token for the upcoming Bratz Lookz™ blockchain game.

In 2021, Animoca Brands is going to launch its very own ERC-20 Fan Token for Bratz®! This token will have utility within the Bratz Lookz™ game, with added benefits connected to the larger Animoca Brands blockchain ecosystem. Please note that Bratz® Fan Token is different from the Bratz® Coins (the virtual, non-crypto currency of Bratz Lookz™) described above; Bratz® Fan Token will be an ERC20 token, bringing all the additional opportunities of crypto within.

No official announcements have been made by Bratz or MGA Entertainment, but we should expect to hear from them in the coming days as the “Bratz Card Sale” launches on Tuesday, December 22nd. In the meantime, there are several websites and social media accounts preparing for the launch of the Bratz Lookz platform. BratzLookz.com is running and information about the upcoming digital Bratz collectible cards can be found on here on the WAX website. Also make sure to read the full press release here for more details!

So far, it seems like this new digital platform will be a fun way to engage adult Bratz fans. The artwork featured on the Bratz Lookz website is super cute and I can’t wait to see what becomes of this new endeavor for the Bratz brand! And with Flash Player going out of service at the end of 2020, this may fill the void for Bratz fans seeking to play the old Bratz Flash games.

You can even create an account on the Bratz Lookz website (first 1,500 sign-ups earn extra “Bratz Coins”), but the “experience” is not fully published quite yet.

Also something to take note of, the WAX page linked above states: “Collect the rarest styles, earn 200 Bratz® Coins for the upcoming Bratz Lookz™ game, and get the chance to win a physical Bratz® collectible doll!” An article from Decrypt states, “They come in five rarity levels, with the highest one—“Shimmerin’”—redeemable for a physical Bratz collectible doll.” Does this mean the winner will receive a limited-edition Bratz doll or something from the MGA vault? Who knows, but it sounds exciting!

DISCLAIMER: This is not a paid advertisement by MGA Entertainment, Animoca Brands, or WAX.io. This is an article reporting the press release of the upcoming Bratz Lookz platform. Lookin’ Bratz has no affiliation with any of these companies.

FIRST UPDATE: It appears the sale on the digital Bratz cards is already live on BratzCollectiblez.io! There is a checklist featuring pages of cards with OG Bratz artwork on them. A video featuring an Animoca Brands spokesperson confirms that around 50 exclusive physical dolls can be redeemed by collectors who receive the “Shimmerin’” cards from the card packs. It is still unknown exactly which dolls will be given away for those who redeem them.

SECOND UPDATE: Hey y’all! I wanted to address and help explain a few things about the Bratz Lookz platform and what it’s all about.

Before I start, I would like to say that I am NOT in any way affiliated with MGA Entertainment, Animoca Brands, Bratz Lookz, Bratz Collectiblez, or any of the companies/platforms involved with this upcoming project. I am just a fan of the brand who runs a fansite and randomly found out the news yesterday while working on something for the website.

I think some confusion comes between the names “Lookin’ Bratz” and “Bratz Lookz”, but Lookin’ Bratz has no creative or monetary involvement with Bratz Lookz whatsoever.

I will try to explain what the platform is about to the best of my knowledge, but please keep in mind that I am still learning the terminology and logistics of it all.

The Bratz Collectiblez cards are digital cards that you can buy in three types of packs: Mini Pack ($4.99 USD), Standard Pack ($9.99 USD), and Mega Pack ($24.99). The cards you receive in each pack will be random and the overall goal is to collect them all and keep them saved in a virtual wallet on the WAX.io website. You must create an account on the WAX.io website in order to do this.

You can trade cards with other people or sell them through the WAX platform. There are five different card types: Stylin’ (Common), Super Stylin’ (Rare), Extra Stylin’ (Premium), Ultra Stylin’ (Legendary), and Shimmerin’ (Ultra Rare/Redeemable). Examples of each card type is available on the website BratzCollectiblez.io.

The Stylin’, Super Stylin’, Extra Stylin’, and Ultra Stylin’ cards can be saved in your wallet, or can be traded or sold. The Shimmerin’ card can be exchanged for a physical doll. According to Animoca Brands spokesperson Tanja in a YouTube video published earlier this month, there will only be about 50 dolls given out. If you exchange a Shimmerin’ card for a doll, you no longer own the Shimmerin’ card in your wallet and it will virtually “burn”. You can also sell your Shimmerin’ card to interested buyers.

The digital card packs will be limited in availability, with about 4,008 mini packs, 2,002 standard packs, and 2,401 mega packs being available.

Additionally, it seems like each pack will possibly come with codes/benefits that people can use for an upcoming game called Bratz Lookz.

Bratz Lookz will be an online dress-up game where players can collect digital dolls and dress them up. There will be “Freezing” events where players can make their own unique doll and design, then sell them during these events.

Another game called Bratz Popz will eventually be released on the Bratz Lookz platform, which will help players get advantages in the Bratz Lookz game.

An ERC-20 “Bratz Fan” token (still not fully sure what this means) will be available next year. This will include the benefits/opportunities that come with cryptocurrency. This token seems like it will come with benefits for Bratz Lookz players who invest in it.

I hope this helps people who may have been confused about what this was all about! It took me some time to piece things together myself, but now it seems to make a lot more sense. This is definitely a direction I did not see the brand going in, but I’m intrigued to see how it goes!

THIRD UPDATE: The back side of a Shimmerin’ card being sold on the WAX Marketplace states: “This card gives you a one time right to redeem a real life collectible Bratz doll available June 2021.” This basically confirms that new Bratz dolls will be available by next year and likely in June 2021, only a month after the brand’s twentieth anniversary.
